Consolidated

I never remember to post here! It's splitting too many hairs... I'm having trouble figuring out what belongs here and what belongs on my main site.

From now on, look for funny Owen stories and crazy Owen photos on Whats In My Camera.

Airports and Hula Hoops

I've been taking pictures of Owen, but I keep getting too distracted to post them. Here are some for catch up.

First, a pic from the return leg of Owen's first airplane trip (he flew a couple times as an infant, but this was the first time he was old enough to enjoy it):

At "Breadstock" Owen discovered that there is much fun to be had with hula hoops.

And he is always excited to walk near the river.

Sharks

This weekend we watched part of a documentary on Hammerhead Sharks. Owen thought it was very cool, especially the baby sharks, which were "very very cute." Later on, we were talking about what happened in the show.
Mommy: What did the sharks look like?
Owen: They had big bones that came out the sides of their nose.
Mommy: That's right! They were hammerhead sharks.
Owen: No Mommy. They were hammerhead shaaaks.
So now Diego has convinced Owen that all guinea pigs are chinchillas; and some random British documentary narrator has convinced Owen that Rs that follow As are unnecessary. Hmmm.

In other news {insert shameless Mommy bragging here} Owen has graduated to 100 piece puzzles. Sometimes I help group the pieces into color groups, but he pretty much puts the thing together all by himself after that.

Apple Picking

Last weekend we also went apple picking.

Our first stop was the hayride. Owen was woken from a nap in the car, so he initially wasn't too sure about it. But after a minute or two he was having a great time.

Noah was a fan of the apples.

Owen was a fan of hamming it up for the camera.

He might not have been very interested in eating apples, but he was pretty good at picking them.

And this has nothing to do with apple picking, but I liked the picture.

RW Zoo

This weekend we took Owen

and Noah

to the Zoo.

We started out with the zebras.

Owen liked the giraffes (especially the baby giraffes) the best.

He also liked to yell at the flamingos, I'm not sure why.

The lethargic penguins were a bit disturbing.

But the wrinkly elephants were quite a sight.

As were the regal eagles.

Owen was more inspired by the cave-dwelling creatures.

And his favorite part may have been getting wet in the water wall.

PT

Drumroll Please.

Guess who is potty trained??

Which is to say: He no longer fights the underpants in the morning. He goes at home without prompting (he just suddenly starts mumbling "I need to use the potty... I need to use the potty..."). We've tackled public restrooms. We spent 2.5 hours in the car with one pit stop and no accidents.

We still put diapers on at bedtime, but otherwise it's all underpants all the time.

Tomorrow is our last hurdle: daycare. He's been home fighting a cold for three days so we'll see how it goes without Mommy around to remind him.

I think he's pretty proud of himself.

Joke

Lately Owen has been trying to tell jokes. He usually forgets the lead-in... or the punch line... or says something that isn't really funny, but thinks that because he called it a "joke" we should all laugh anyway. (We do.)

Then last night, he pulled it off. His very first real joke.

Q: Why did the banana go to the doctor?

A: Because he didn't peel well.

Spigot

It was a very hot, but very fun, day at Jed and Karen's reception. After all, how often can you just let your kids get soaking wet, and not even worry about it?

And we'll have fun, fun, fun til Mommy takes the play doh away...

"Smile for the camera..." I should have known better.
